What is Kinect?
Kinect is a peripheral in form of a sensor to Microsoft's Xbox 360 Slim which lets the player control the game without a physcal controller. Kinect lets you control the games with gestures, your voice and by recognition of objects. Kinect was under a long time known by the code name "Natal" and works kind of like a collection of webcamera-looking cameras which reads the nearest surroundings and by its stereo vision can determine the users position and movements with high precision. According to the commercial for Kinect, the sensor will have support to be controlled by up to six people at the same time with two active players with voice recognition and handling up to 20 joints per player.
Kinect will be released in North America on the 4th November 2010. When Kinect will be released, it will be available in three different so called "bundles"; Only the sensor and the game Kinect Adventures, together with Xbox 360 Slim 4 GB or together with Xbox 360 Slim 250 GB which both also have the game Kinect Adventures.The games being released together with the release of Kinect is primarly family games or games typical for a movement controller such as dancing, sports and health. What will be interesting to see is how the gaming industry utilizes the Kinect-sensor to enable an extra dimension to the gaming experience.
